How many times can you edit? Some people edit until the moment the book is published, or they have to return it to their publisher. Personally, I try to do two. I’ve finished the first edit, and I’m ready to start on the second. Why so many?
There are things I think about after I’ve finished writing the book, and I want to include them. My mind works crazy, but what I add will not change the book that much. My biggest problem is Telling vs. Showing. Here is what I wrote to ChatGPT, and then how it corrected my example.
Maggie smiles, thinking about how strong Kenneth is. Like right now, he’s protecting her like he did at the church several years ago. He is so kind, but protective.
That is pure telling. Now look at their answer.
Maggie smiles as Kenneth moves closer, placing himself between her and the others. Always protecting her. Just as he had at the church years ago.
She remembers how safe she felt that day when Kenneth stepped in without hesitation. He hadn’t changed. Beneath that strength was a kindness few people ever saw.
Kenneth glances at her. “You okay?”
Maggie nods. With Kenneth beside her, she is.
Can you see the difference? This is why I edit twice.

Yes, editing is never ending, and ChatGBT is a great tool because it helps us have instant feedback on ways to improve what we write. Looking forward to your book! You do know that Alexa reads ebooks to me, right?? I want to explore what KDP has for audio books. There is apparently a way to have your ebooks turned into audiobooks (AI) for free!
Kindle can read to you. I like it, but the AI voice is not the best. I still listen to it, but I like the Speech to Text better. Chat Gpt tried to get me to use Voice Control, but it’s too noisy and frustrates me. I’m back at Speech to Text. Open Kindle and select a book, click to make it smaller like you want to see how much more you have to read and there is an arrow on the bottom right with a circle around it. Click it and the book will read to you. I do this all the time. Let me know what you find out about free AI on Kindle. I’m interested. Now to edit.
