My shopping is finished. I have wrapped all the presents. My tree is up, and my decorations are out. Our menu is selected for our Christmas dinner, so I\’m pretty well set. Or am I?
In all reality, I have the house to clean, and my part of the meal to cook. I have this week to do it. I always look forward to having the work finished. I can sit back and enjoy the family as they come.
We are a small family of eleven. One was added this year when our granddaughter married the love of her life. As my husband and I get older, our family will increase. I pray I can live long enough to see some of the future of our family.
As a Christian, I hope to be nice to everyone. I know I\’ve made enemies in the past, but I try not to be rude or mean-spirited to anyone. I consider the teaching of Christ to be a teaching of peace. It hurts me when someone is rude to me. I see this rudeness more in younger people than I do in others. Maybe they do not understand the teaching in the Bible. People everywhere say they are Christians, but do they live what they say?
I\’ve always thought there were others that had more problems than I did. I\’d like to share an example. I had been in the hospital for very high blood pressure, and went to the doctor for my post hospital check-up. A young lady entered in a motorized wheelchair. She wheeled over to the area where I was sitting. A nurse called someone to go back and see the doctor. The nurse looked around and saw the young woman in the wheelchair.
The nurse smiled and said, \”Hi, Miracle.\”
Miracle smiled broadly and said, \”Hi, it\’s good to see you. You look nice today.\”
That was when I began to pay attention to this young lady in the wheelchair as she continued to smile.
I was called back and came out to leave. Miracle was at the door and couldn\’t press the button to automatically open the outside doors. I remember I was wearing my favorite top, a yellow long tee shirt.
\”Can I open the door for you?\” I asked.
\”Yes, thank you,\” Miracle said.
She eyed me and said, \”You look pretty in the yellow.\”
This young woman had major problems. I don\’t know what they were, but she had the happiest disposition. She dealt with her problem. She could have been mean and hateful, but she was so pleasant. This has stuck with me for the past six months.
Sometimes we ask for help in different ways. During this holiday season, notice what people are asking. Maybe just a hug (which we can\’t do this year). Maybe a kind word. Remember to smile. Most of all, remember God loves you.
