FRIDAY DEVOTIONS

Happy Mother\’s Day

by Kathy Cretsinger

\"\"The most well- known mother of all times is Mary. We learned about Mary and her devotion to God early in our lives. She had to be a special person for God to choose her to give birth to His Son.

Today, we think the things that are happening in our world is pretty bad, but we are not treated nearly as bad as the Jews in Jesus\’s time, or Mary\’s time. They were looked down upon, made fun of, taxed to the hilt, and all in all treated badly. The Romans put unfair taxes on the Jews in order to lavish in a life-style we can not understand today.

The Jews were praying for the Messiah to come quickly. God heard their prayers and sent His Son to earth. Mary also prayed that prayer, but she had no idea she would bring God\’s Son into the world. Mary was a special person, a righteous person, and a person devoted to God.

How did she feel when she was told she would become pregnant? She was only engaged to Joseph. How did Joseph feel?

Most of us would feel honored we were chosen by God. We would probably tell everyone, but Mary kept the secret to herself. She knew she had a duty to perform, and Joseph did also.

The process of Jesus\’s birth was looked down upon. Mary was pregnant before marriage. That was a no-no at that time. People could not realize how Jesus was Mary\’s son without a father. Mary did not get upset, but went about her job of raising God\’s Son.

Can you imagine what Mary went through when Christ was crucified? The hardest thing a mother can do is watch her child die, then to watch them be buried. Mary did all of this with grace. We have no record of her screaming at the Roman guards, saying things she would regret later, or making a show or causing a riot. No, she waited with the other Christians at the cross.

Mary was a follower of Christ.Acts 1:14 tell us, All these with one accord were devoting themselves to prayer, together with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers.

When we are sitting at a restaurant Sunday enjoying our children, remember Mary and what she endured. She was entrusted with our Saviour to raise to adulthood and to die for our sins. She was a special person.
