FRIDAY DEVOTIONAL

Help Us Lord

by Kathy Cretsinger

I\"\"n our society today, we seem to want to blame someone for anything that happens. Where does the blame belong? Maybe to the parents who did not bring their children up in the Lord. When people do not have a religious structure in a country, it seems the country falls. Only 12% of young people ages 18-24 in the United States identify as Christians. Parents, are you worshipping with your children? Do you teach them Christian values at home?

This past year has been a very stressful year for most of us. The pandemic has caused us to react in ways we never imagined. We\’ve seen street violence, murders, and disobedience of laws. We\’ve seen parents crying because of the death of their child due to a police shooting. Let\’s look at these shootings. What really took place, but first, let\’s look at the Bible.

We are taught to obey God, respect our parents, and obey the laws of the land in Romans 13:1-3  Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval,

It seems in today\’s society that little Johnny can do no wrong, but wait a minute. Isn\’t resisting arrest a disobedience of not only God but the laws on the land?  First of all, we should never identify a person by the color of their skin. We are all the same in the sight of God. Therefore, I will not identify these people by black or white, they are people.

Take a look at the people who were killed by the police in the past year. What were they doing? They were committing a crime or resisting arrest. Who is to blame for that? The person who was shot or their parents. We all think our children are the best in the world, but as a parent, it was my responsibility to teach them to obey God and mankind. We seem to have lost that today.

The best way to save lives today is to admit when you\’ve done something wrong. It\’s no sin to admit guilt, and it can save your life. When did we get to the point that we thought we knew better than God? When did we begin to make up our own laws?
