Wednesday morning, I was interviewed by a television station in Bristol, Virginia/Tennessee. Yes, Bristol is a divided city. One side of the main street, State Street,  is in Virginia and the other is in Tennessee. Very unique. The local television station, WCYB, interviewed me early this morning. I\’m not usually very perky at 9 a.m., but I had to be today. It was a fun interview.

Interviews are one way to get your name out to the public, if you are an author. Yes, I\’ve sold books today! That always makes me happy. Marketing is always hard for authors. As an author, we need to make ourselves known to the reading world. A lot of things enter into the ability to sell books.

The biggest asset to selling books is writing a good book. As one agent said the other night, this is a time to hone our craft. Things are slow right now with the virus. People are not going to as many bookstores as they were, but they are buying online. There are so many things most of us can do to improve our writing.

One thing I am working on now is to deepen my characters. I want to know my characters better, and I need to study them closer. I have a long character sketch that I am using. By long, it is seventeen pages. Everything you can think of is listed in the sketch, even a Myers-Briggs Personality test for each character. This really gets you to know your people, and they are people to us.
