NEARING THE END

\"\"How do you feel as you near the end of the book? I love the end. There are several reasons, but the main one is because it is almost finished. I get so tired of the middle. I really look forward to catching the bad guy and having a happy-ever-after. By the time I get to the end, I\’m ready to start the next book.

That\’s where I am now. I have written the book, finished all of it. Now, I am in the editing process and the read through. That is probably the most boring part of writing. I love the excitement of writing, but I hate to read the book aloud.

As a publisher, we encouraged all of our authors to read the book aloud before we publish it. Why? You hear your mistakes. We never encouraged our authors to listen to the book. If they are like me, they get distracted easily. At my house, my husband would come in and ask a question, but you may have small children. I love children, but they can distract you from listening to your voice as you read through.

This is what I do. When I get my galley, I read it aloud in a room by myself. I close the door and read. When my door is closed, no one enters unless it is an emergency. No phone, no internet, only myself and my galley. There is something about hearing your voice reading the manuscript that allows you to hear the mistakes you\’ve made. It is amazing!

My plans are to finish the manuscript this week, send it to the formatter, and be ready to read aloud. I want to get this baby over with so I can start the next book. I have four more books to write in the series. Lots to do.
