THE WRITER\’S WORLD

\"\"When I meet someone for the first time, I rarely tell them I am an author. Yes, my first book hit #1 on Amazon several years ago, but I hardly ever mention it. Still, I love to write.

These are some things I\’ve learned as a writer.

  1. You do not get younger and have more time to write. I never thought about getting older and time running out. I always thought I\’d have years and years to write.
  2. Learn all you can from experienced writers. Writers who have written for years have more knowledge in their little finger than fresh writers.
  3. Ask questions. Every question is important.
  4. Go to conferences. Even the small ones can give you more one-on-one time with established authors.
  5. Make yourself known on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. When people read your name multiple times, they will remember you.
  6. Be excited about the book you\’re writing, and the one\’s you\’ve written previously.
  7. Do not be shy about telling people you are an author. Don\’t push it down their throat, but gently let them know.
  8. Write every day. Everyone tells you that, but take time to write something each day. It doesn\’t have to be the book you\’re writing. Blogs count as writing time.
  9. Be positive and help others on their writing journey. We need to encourage all writers.
  10. Thank God for giving you this ability. Thank Him for people who have entered your life and helped you.

Writing is a lonely job. It\’s a very private job. So many authors have helped me with my writing, and I thank each of them so much. I can\’t name them because I\’ll leave out someone. All of you who have helped me, I thank you with all my heart.

It is hard to talk about what we did. When I worked for a newspaper, my name was plastered on the paper several times each print. Since we’ve moved to another state, very few understand what I do. I’ve found it’s much easier to make comments as you have done here. I also comment several posts on Facebook. That seems to help. We have to be known to sell a book. Very few will buy a book written by someone they have never heard of.
