What a difference a week makes. I wrote last week\’s post before we left for West Virginia and my sister\’s memorial service. I never dreamed there would be so much destruction in our area. We live about twenty miles from Mayfield, Kentucky, and we are in Marshall County, Kentucky. We live about three miles from some of the damage in Marshall County. If you\’ve ever watched the beginning of \”White Christmas\” and seen the war scene, well, that\’s what it looked like here in our area. Trees stripped of branches, houses destroyed. It is so sad to think about the lives lost. Each Christmas, the families will relive this tragedy.
I\’m grateful for our first responders, linemen, telephone people, churches, and everyone that has helped. We had a family from California come to help. Christ\’s spirt is still alive and well. We won\’t talk about those who looted areas where there was destruction. So sad that people want to plunder and steal from those who have lost everything.
We have heard a lot of stories of people who lived through the storm. My son told of a man he worked with himĀ who got his family in the bathtub and covered them with a mattress. Their house blew away, as did the bathtub with them in it. They survived.
The sad stories of a family of seven who lost their lives. So sad.
Saturday, when you enjoy time with your family, remember those less fortunate. Those who lost family members and homes. Businesses demolished, jobs lost, and people displaced. Most of them will not have a Merry Christmas.
My family wishes each of you a Merry Christmas.
