EIGHTY AND LOVING IT

Happy July 4th

\"\"Happy Birthday America, and Happy Birthday to our oldest grandchild! The fireworks are still for your birthday.

The strangest thing about living to eighty is how swiftly it comes. When I was small, I wanted Christmas to come faster. I remember telling my grandmother that it took forever for Christmas to get here. She patiently said to me,\”As you get older, Christmas would come faster.\” She was so right.Today, I look at people who are old at fifty-five. It\’s our attitude. I believe if your attitude is positive, you will have a better outlook on everything in life. Even a deep faith in God and a belief in eternal life helps us to have a better attitude toward life. We were listening to the funeral of a forty-year-old woman, and the preacher said we do not pass away but pass from one life to the next. That is such a good attitude to think about death.
We should think young, be able to do new things, and always enjoy each moment. Each day goes swiftly. Try to take advantage of each moment. Life can be short.

There are always things we can\’t do like we did earlier in life. I\’m so glad I don\’t have to jump rope or do sprints. I do miss the swing in the apple tree, but I don\’t miss the bees that liked the apples. Today, I enjoy a good book and holding hands with my husband. Church services ground me, they keep me focused on where I need to be. When I\’m with friends, I feel loved and appreciated. My eyesight is failing, and I am preparing for the time when I\’ll not be able to see as well as I can now. That is fine. I have no regrets, but a peaceĀ  knowing God loves me. I fear for our nation, but I still love it. I put my hand on my heart when the national anthem is played. I am proud to say I am an American.

Tonight when I go to bed, I\’ll say a prayer for my family, church, friends, those who fought so we could remain free, and America. We have so much to be thankful for. God bless America.

  1. Growing old is mind over matter, it doesn’t matter if you don’t mind. I admire your attitude toward life and how our relationship with the Lord brings that peace that passes all human understanding. We know that He is our provider in all things and aging is a process preparing us for our final journey, it is a great adventure. Thanks for your encouragement.

Thanks, Nanci. Life is too short to worry about leaving it. I see too many young old people sitting around doing nothing. I try to stay as active, although sometimes my eyes prevent me from seeing as well as I’d like to. It is all attitude. I can be happy or I can make everyone around me miserable. It’s my choice. I prefer to be happy.
