MY GLUTEN-FREE LIFE

Gluten-free Products

by Kathy Cretsinger

\"\"Not all gluten-free products are alike. To be able to have the gluten-free stamp, the product must be produced in a sterile environment. No gluten will be in the facility where the product is made. This is very important for those who have celiac. No gluten can contaminate their food. There is so much gluten in things you would not evenĀ  imagine, like peanut butter, salad dressings, mayo, and a bunch of other products besides flour. If you are in a foreign county, search to see if they have gluten in their flour. Some countries do not have as much as the US does.

There are several products that I use all the time. If you are searching for flour, try King Arthur Gluten Free Flour. It is better than any I have ever used. I also make a flour mix from Nicole Hunn\’s glutenfreeonashoesstring.com. I have been playing with this mix by making some of our favorite recipes from long ago. I will include one recipe next week that my family has loved for over fifty years.

As I\’ve always said, read labels. Make sure there is no gluten in the product you want to buy. Yesterday, I found a Progresso soup that is gluten-free. Soups are famous for having gluten. The soup was expensive, but it was something I could eat. This was a new product at Kroger. There is also a Lance peanut butter and cracker in a box, not the individual packages, that is delicious. I found it once at Kroger, but I haven\’t seen it before. You can probably find more on Amazon, but Amazon is a little pricey for things like this.

Gluten is not good for my intestines. This past weekend, I ate a lot of gluten. Sometimes it\’s hard to not eat it, but I can eat some and it won\’t hurt me. Three meals in a row does hurt. I take an enzyme each day, mostly three times a day. What I get is from Amazon and it\’s called Digest Basic by Enzymedica. This has helped me whenever I eat something with gluten. I also take a probiotic each day. These all help with your digestion, and they are working for me.

If you have any questions, please either PM me on Facebook or write in the comments. I will help in any way that I can, but I am not an expert.
