WRITING TIPS

\"\"Through the years, I\’ve tried several things to help me write better. Some I have loved, and some I have never gotten used to. Here is my list of the things I like most.

  1. Grammarly.com. This is the best help for me when I am writing. You can write in it, and as you write, it corrects your manuscript. I have the \”Pro,\” which is so much better than the free one. It tells me if I\’ve used words repeatedly, don\’t we all do that. The other day it said I had used \”she\” too many times. I guess I did, and I went back and  made it better. If you are not a grammar queen, Grammarly is for you. I copy and paste things I have worked on in the past, but it is much easier to correct mistakes as you go along.
  2. Serious Writer Club. I love this organization. I am a part of a group that teaches each week. Kyle Young does talks about trends in writing and publishing each week. Bethany Jett does a lesson each week on marketing. I need that. Victoria Duerstock does one on social media, and Cody Morehead does one on branding. All things I need as a writer. It is a great club to be in. Also, there are lots of resources you can use. I love the Monday night classes, and they are recorded for members. If you can\’t be present at the class, you can watch it later.
  3. The Happy Planner. Okay, I\’m a paper person. I love to write things down, and the vertical classic helps me. I have eighteen months at my fingertips. I like to plan ahead, but it is so convenient. There are many things to add to your planner, but so far, I\’m happy with the basic. They have stickers, envelopes, paper to take notes on, etc. I am a Happy Planner. You can take the pages out when you are through with a month and file them for your records. I like that better than anything.
  4. Scrivener.com. So far, I have not gotten into Scrivener, but I have tried. I think it\’s my learning curve. I have even had private lessons from a friend who swears by it. I like the idea of having pictures of your characters, notes about characters, and scene descriptions, but I have never gotten into it very much. It will help with writing. You can even write in Grammarly and put it in Scrivener if you want to. It is a good program, but maybe it\’s not for me. I may try it again when I have more time.

We are always trying new things. Some we like, and some we don\’t. These are helps I use. The first three are my favorites. Scrivener is growing on me. I may have to give it another try with my next book. I hope some of these programs will help you with your writing.

Happy writing!
