INTERVIEW WITH REGINA RUDD MERRICK

It is my pleasures to have my friend, Regina Rudd Merrick, for my guest today. We\’ve been friends for about eight or so years. I wanted my readers to get to know her a little also. I loved this book when I read the first chapter a couple of years ago. I am so glad to see it in publication. Good job, Regina!

KC: Regina, my readers have not had the pleasure of knowing you as long as I have. Tell us a little about yourself.

RRM: I’m a Kentucky girl, a piano player, a mama of two grown-up girls and a son-in-law, a wife of 37 years, a former school and public librarian, and now, a full-time writer! My favorite things are binge-watching cop shows (we’re currently on NCIS: New Orleans), walking on the beach (which is difficult in Kentucky), and anything chocolate. I live in a 104-year-old house in the middle of the small town (make that tiny) of Marion, Kentucky, and as much as I love my house, I wish it were in the middle of ten acres! LOL!

KC: This is your fifth book. What influenced you to write about this book and go away from Pawley’s Island?

RRM: I may actually go back to Pawley’s Island one of these days! My new release, Heart Restoration: RenoVations, Book 1, is my 4^th full-length novel. I have a Southern Breeze story in the Coastal Promises novella collection, and “RenoVating Christmas,” a novella introducing my current series, in Hope is Born, a Mosaic Christmas anthology. I was inspired by a brother-sister design/build duo on HGTV, and the story of a gentleman, in 1840, who dreamed of founding a town on the Ohio River. He wasn’t able to accomplish that, but I was able to pull a few “fictional strings” and put a town where there is nothing but farmland in real-life Crittenden County!

KC: Does this book have a connection with your life?

RRM:It does! First, I’ve watched people work on houses on television since I was a kid. I’ve always loved it. Second, I fell in love with a house out in the county, and while we weren’t able to buy it, when I did some research, I learned about the connection with this house and the Clement man who wanted to found Clementburg but died before it came to pass. Interestingly enough, this man’s son may have been married to the sister of my who-knows-how-many-great grandfather! How crazy is that?? So yes, there are several connections!

KC: As you know, I’ve read part of this book, and I loved it. Do you have the rest of the series plotted out?

RRM: Somewhat. I’m working on a novella for Mosaic’s 2020 Christmas anthology, and I’m going back and forth on which characters to pull in for RenoVations, Book 2, and maybe book 3!
